Totally agree with moomoo77. A lot of people I came across seemed to think that cyber security is simple, but personal experience tells me that it is definitely not so. To me, one?ÿneeds a good understanding of the fundamentals first, but it seems that quite a number of people think it is just looking at whatever alerts are being thrown out by the detection system.

While such tier?ÿ1 support is definitely needed, without knowledge, one can also be very easily overwhelmed by the large number of alerts that may be generated if they don't understand what is going on, not to mention that such defences can also be very weak against attacks initiated from the inside.

It is good to see more people interested in this area of work, but I really hope it is because they are really interested in it rather than because it is perceived to be an area where it is "easier" to get a job with decent pay. In the end, we may end up with a lot of flaws in the security solutions and the hackers will have a good time.

Just ranting because I just met someone who claimed that he is an "expert" in cyber security and go around telling others to "just use encryption and everything will be fine"... :(

Anyway Tom, just in case you misunderstand, I am not directing my earlier reply at you, but more just based on my own encounters. Hope this don't cause any misunderstanding. :)
