Topic-icon Public servants to use only authorised USB devices

With the recent "Not Petya" scare, seems like our Government has got good foresight to implement the internet segregation and allowing of only authorised USB devices to be connected to the office network. Although not a welcoming approach, but probably a good-enough to prevent cyber attacks. :P

I guess there are not much choice with the rampant cyber attacks going on. Being a government is already a target for hackers so i think the govt is doing a great job in securing all the devices.

Hmm, seems like all govt folks are not just no more internet but unable to have usb drives plugged into their computers. wonder will this impact productivity as a whole.

My workplace has USB drive disabled for a couple of years. Only authorised USB sticks are allowed. So far, ok for me as I do not share much stuff via USB :D

I assumed you are in the private sector. But for government agencies, they deal with public and not sure if this will reduce effiiency. Disabling USB and cutting internet trend may not gel well with the younger gen work force as they are so used with all the social media, and stuff.

Well, I guess there is always a trade-off. In this case, I believe the pros and cons would have been assessed and the pros outweighs the cons for it to be implemented.
