thanks for sharing your thoughts. honestly, i feel that most companies has already outsourced their programming to offshore companies to reduce cost. so i am really doubtful what's left for local programmers.
cybersecurity is good career now due to increase in demand but certifications play a vital role as companies look out for experienced pentesters and consultants. have u found a security job yet?

Just went to a job interview last wednesday and that's the reason why i start this post haha.
During the interview the interviewer comment that they can only offer me a junior position due to my lack of experience in this field. That's the reason why i thought i might be taking a pay cut since my expected pay is around my current pay. The interviewer is quite nice. He actually let me go back to think about this job and whether i am really interested or not. He actually let me think until this Monday which is today.
I have declared my interest in the job yesterday and now is waiting for their HR dept to contact me. Hopefully there won't be a pay cut but I actually expecting one but hope it is not too much.
Anyway really need to thanks for all the insights you guys provide me. It really helps me in making this decision

Firstly congrats to ur new job! it's a new stepping stone for u and I believe u will enjoy it! make the best use of it by attending security related courses and seminars.
Btw mind if u share which company u join? no need to name but is it local or those big 4?

Haha..not so fast...still haven't meet their HR to discuss the overall package yet.
It is a local company that mainly deal with government side. The "big 4" that you mention is the big 4 auditor companies? Don't think the "big 4" will hire a greenhorn like me. haha
Plan to attend more security related course if i really got a job in this field. I actually use my own money and weekends to went for my CEH course. Some courses is too expensive so i would like my company to sponsor me to go. Not possible to ask my current company since my current job scope does not lies in security side.

Hi I am currently in my mid thirties with 7 years experience as a software programmer.
Currently i am looking to switch my career into IT security and was offered a post in security testing. Mostly doing source code review, pen test and VA.
Since i think i will be having pay cut due to this career switch so i want to ask whether the prospect of being in security testing like pen tester in Singapore is it good and promising?
