Just a suggestion since you asked. If you are moving into a managerial position and climbing corporate ladder, maybe consider MBA instead?

The Masters will going to add depth into your IT security skill set which may be redundant.

Hmm.. @victorlau but if i am a CIO, wouldnt it be useful to gain deeper knowledge with this Masters in security?

I would think that to get Masters in Security or MBA will depend on what carrier path you want to continue on.

After being a technical person for years and you have moved up to middle management, you may not be the one doing the ground work?ÿand?ÿhands on stuff but leading a team. You will be hiring people with the technical depth and the one managing them. So if you want to move on to a higher management position, I guess MBA may be a good choice.

If you are a CIO with years of technical experience, maybe you can think of MBA because you may need to manage from a business perspective and be able to align?ÿyour thinking perspective?ÿwith the CEO, CFO, COO etc.

IT security head will always ask for more budget from CFO and CEO and they will?ÿnot give most of the time unless there is a high profile security breach.

If you?ÿknow abit about finance and used other?ÿcompany's numbers to compare and able to?ÿshow the?ÿCFO CEO that your company?ÿ's IT budget is too low. In the end of?ÿday you get the desired budget, get the right talent?ÿinto your?ÿIT security and you get to beef up the IT security of your company. You get to achieve your mission as a CIO.

Getting MBA is more of?ÿequipping?ÿyourself for the role of CIO and possibly CEO.

The path is towards CIO will require you to have technical knowledge but you need to know how to manage your departments under you. IT knowledge is never ending story.

I do not know the curriculum of the?ÿMasters in Security so its?ÿunfair for me to compare the both and?ÿwhat I mentioned is what I think. I am not even in this?ÿfield YET.

And the course fees is $13k, quite exp!

13K for a masters seems fine, If you compare with other MBAs.

I think the prospects for such a MBA holder should be there.

This masters seems good and comes at the right time. I may try the first intake and see how. just hope I can survive thru.
